Guardian Homes

Guardian homes are the extended family of Teddybear Labradoodles.

When you become a guardian home, one of our puppies comes to live in a guardian home for life. We develop a close relationship with our Guardians and work together during a dog’s short breeding career. Litters are born and cared for at our house while the dog lives with you the rest of the time.

Do you want to become a Guardian Home?

We believe that all of our dogs deserve a loving home with their own special families. Therefore, we will place most of our breeding dogs in guardian homes. Our guardian program is essentially an exchange program which involves Teddybear Labradoodles breeding dogs and our guardian families.

Our breeding dogs are premium dogs which remain intact for a certain number of years for the purpose of breeding. They carry a high monetary value and require high-quality care and attention much the same as any good dog owner would provide for their pet. The exchange involves the guardian family giving our wonderful dogs a safe and loving home to call their own.

Chosen guardian homes are required to pay a small deposit on their dog. This deposit will be returned to the Guardian once the dog has been released from the breeding program unless the dog is not used in the breeding program for any reason. The Guardian will have received a puppy at a substantially lower price if the dog is not used. Once our dogs have completed their breeding years they will be neutered/spayed at the Guardian's expense and continue to live out their lives in their forever homes.

Requirements for Guardian Homes

Guardian must have the dog live in the home as a part of your family.
Guardian must provide regular routine veterinary care as needed.
Guardian must live within a 1.5 hour drive from our home in Kingston, ON.
Guardian preference will be given to families who have someone at home at least part of the day. If there isn't at least one adult person who is at home with the dog on a full-time basis, adequate arrangements are in place for a dog nanny or doggie daycare.
Guardian must be a non-smoking home.
Guardian must have a fenced-in yard.
Guardian must maintain the dog's vaccinations, pest control and other health care as per our protocol.
Guardian must be willing to spend time training the dog in basic commands and good behaviour much as you would any pet. This include attending puppy obedience classes.
Guardian must feed the dog superior quality food recommended by us and not allow her/him to become over or underweight. Guardian must see that the dog gets appropriate exercise daily.
Guardian must be willing to provide regular and necessary grooming to the dogs coat as determined by the breeder. Dog must be groomed according to our specified grooming guidelines.
Guardian must be willing to bring the dog to the breeder as needed or make arrangements with the breeder to pick the dog up for breeding, health testing, pictures, etc, that may be deemed necessary by the breeder from time to time.
Guardian must be willing to bring the dog to spend the day with us once every 12 weeks at a mutually convenient time in order for the dog to be comfortable and familiar with our home and avoid any issues when the dog is brought here for breeding, whelping purposes.
Guardian must provide breeder with at minimum a monthly update about dog including pictures.
Guardian must also provide breeder with all information from vet visits as well as the breeder must be noted as a "co-owner" on their veterinary file and the veterinarian must be aware that the dog is in a guardianship.
Breeder will pay all expenses related to breeding will be at the breeder's expense. Vaccinations, treatment for minor health issues, general care are at the expense of the Guardian.

What are the costs?

The cost of a Guardian puppy is a security deposit in the amount of $1,500.00 CAD. This is significantly less than the purchase price of a puppy. Once the puppy is about 6 months old we then begin the process of doing formal health testing. Generally, a dog will begin their breeding at around 15 months, or their second "season" and generally after 10 months if a male.

Breeder Responsibilities

Breeder will pay all testing costs and costs associated with breeding (vaccinations, treatment for minor health issues, general care are at the expense of the Guardian).
Breeder will likely only breed female dogs 4 times in total. This is a case by-case basis. Some dogs may only have one litter- it all depends on the health of the dog-this is our priority! Dogs, male and female are retired at the latest, 6 years of age.
Breeder will refund the security deposit to the Guardian once the dog is retired from breeding. In essence, a Guardian dog is free of charge.
Breeder will make the arrangements to have the dog spayed or neutered after retiring from breeding.
